Usually, I adhere to an iterative, phase-based approach that yields tangible results in the design phase already. The first (preliminary) phase is all about working out a certain concept based on well identified goals and target audience, which will further underlie a product design as such and its subsequent realisation.’ IN-DEPTH RESEARCH (goals and direction, technology, problematics, methodology, market analysis, competitors) concept phase consists in all kinds of research (study of target audience makes it possible to work out “a persona”) - 2 or 3 linesInitial mapping of personas and their journeys. Here is where a UX solution comes in, as it focuses on working out a logically coherent “journey” and a high-level, or general architecture, as well as sketches, references, trends and directions.
Further design details, as well as warframes, layouts and testing will arrive at the next phase. It is a gradual movement from low-fidelity to high-fidelity modelling, comes alive. As a designer, I put a special emphasis on the structure and logic (coherence) at every step of my work, so that the final project is easily implementable without any special efforts on designers’ part. On top of it, if there are issues with the project’s coherence - the most effort-consuming aspect of it - the project is sure to collapse like a house of cards at the finishing phase, when there is no way one can reverse it.
It’s a bit of a challenge to say with certainty which phase is the most crucial one. If the conceptual idea behind the design is nothing but ordinary, the final product is sure to be boring. If the product ultimately lacks in design, it will equally lack in quality. Should too little attention be paid to the final delivery - the design would be like…MEME expectations vs. final result
It’s a bit of a challenge to work out the framework of the project once and for all, as it continues to change throughout the work phases. The strategy is always one of a kind, as while the approach is fixed (and should be so, to make the work balanced enough), every project is uniquely creative.
